Maximum working pressure (MWP)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002303

The highest internal pressure that a piece of equipment, such as a vessel, pipe, or valve, is designed to withstand safely during normal operation. This pressure rating, also known as Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP), is determined by the manufacturer based on the material's strength, design code, and operating temperature. The maximum working pressure (MWP) is stamped on the equipment's nameplate and must not be exceeded, as specified by standards like the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
