Pooling

The combining of small or irregular tracts of land into a drilling unit large enough to satisfy state spacing regulations for drilling a well. This practice allows for the efficient development of hydrocarbon resources across multiple ownerships. Pooling agreements allocate production and costs among the owners within the unit, often based on surface acreage contributions.
