An abbreviation for pounds per barrel, a unit of concentration used in drilling fluids to express the amount of a solid additive in pounds per 42-gallon barrel of fluid. This unit is commonly used for weighting agents, lost circulation materials, or other solid components. For example, a mud might contain 100 ppb of barite.
