Barrel equivalent
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000276
A laboratory volume of 350 milliliters of mud that stands in for one 42-gallon oilfield barrel. One barrel holds about 454 times that volume and one pound weighs about 454 grams, so adding 1 gram of a material to 350 milliliters reproduces a concentration of 1 pound per barrel. Pilot tests therefore scale field recipes written in pounds per barrel directly to grams.
