Reel back tension
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003076
The controlled force applied to the storage reel during coiled tubing or wireline operations to maintain a tight, uniform wrap as the line is pulled out of the well. This tension is managed by the reel's hydraulic or electric drive system, working against the pull from the injector head or winch. Proper back tension prevents loose wraps that can damage the coiled tubing or wireline by causing cinching or bird-caging on subsequent jobs.
