Toolface

The azimuthal orientation of a downhole drilling tool, such as a bent sub or a steerable motor, relative to a fixed reference point. It indicates the direction in which the drilling assembly is attempting to steer the wellbore. Toolface measurements are transmitted to the surface in real-time by measurement-while-drilling (MWD) tools, typically expressed in degrees clockwise from high side or magnetic north.
