Tripping pipe

The operation of pulling the drill string out of the wellbore and subsequently running it back in, usually to change the drill bit or perform other downhole work. This involves breaking connections, racking pipe stands, and then reversing the procedure. It is a routine but time-consuming part of drilling operations.
