dolasetron mesylate

Term · Oncology and biomedicine · MLC-T-ONC-002538

  1. A drug used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Dolasetron mesylate blocks the action of the chemical serotonin, which binds to certain nerves and may trigger nausea and vomiting. Blocking serotonin may help lessen nausea and vomiting. Dolasetron mesylate is a type of serotonin receptor antagonist and a type of antiemetic.

  2. An indole derivative with antiemetic activity. As a selective serotonin receptor antagonist, dolasetron mesylate competitively blocks the action of serotonin at 5HT3 receptors, resulting in suppression of chemotherapy- and radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
