Hardcoat
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000163
A hard protective surface layer applied to a finished part. On aluminum parts, hardcoat is Type III anodizing, an electrochemical oxide layer grown in sulfuric acid that gives a wear-resistant surface roughly 25 to 75 micrometers thick. On polymer parts, it is a clear acrylic, urethane or epoxy lacquer cured by air, heat or UV light to resist scratching.
