Raft

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000319

A sacrificial base structure printed directly on the build platform, upon which the actual 3D model is built. It consists of several layers of material that form a flat, stable foundation, improving first-layer adhesion and mitigating issues like warping for materials such as ABS. After printing, the raft is manually detached from the part and discarded; the air gap setting in the slicer software controls the separation distance.
