Surface angle
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000375
The angle of a part's surface relative to the horizontal build plate, a key parameter in determining the need for support structures. Surfaces with a shallow angle, known as overhangs, may print successfully without supports up to a certain threshold specific to the printer and material. For most FDM printers, surfaces angled more than 45 to 50 degrees from the vertical axis require supports to prevent drooping or failure of the printed layers.
