Virgin powder
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000407
Unused, newly manufactured powder feedstock for powder bed fusion processes that has not been exposed to a build cycle. During a print, not all powder in the build chamber is fused into the part; the remainder is collected for reuse. This reclaimed powder is often mixed with a specific ratio of virgin powder to replenish its volume and maintain consistent material properties, as repeated heating can alter particle size distribution and flow characteristics.
