Depowdering

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000095

The process of removing loose, unfused powder from parts made with powder bed fusion systems like selective laser sintering (SLS) or electron beam melting (EBM). Once the build is finished, the part is excavated from the build chamber where it is surrounded by this powder, which must be cleared from all surfaces and internal channels. The recovered powder is sieved to remove contaminants and agglomerates before being blended with virgin material for reuse in subsequent builds.
