Heat treat
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000166
To subject a printed part, particularly one made of metal or certain polymers, to a controlled cycle of heating and cooling to alter its physical and mechanical properties. This post-processing step modifies the material's microstructure, relieving internal stresses built up during the printing process and improving properties like hardness, strength, and ductility. Common heat treatment cycles for additively manufactured metals include stress relief, hot isostatic pressing (HIP), and solution annealing followed by aging.
