Wire EDM
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000416
A subtractive machining process, wire electrical discharge machining, that employs a thin, electrically energized wire to cut conductive materials. The wire acts as an electrode, and a series of rapid electrical discharges between the wire and the workpiece erodes the material to create a precise cut. In metal additive manufacturing, wire EDM is a common method for separating finished parts from their build plates with high accuracy and minimal mechanical stress on the component.
