Avidity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001028

The cumulative strength of multiple binding interactions between a multivalent ligand and a multivalent receptor. This collective binding force is greater than the sum of individual affinities due to synergistic effects. Avidity is particularly relevant in biological systems where multiple weak interactions combine to form a strong overall bond, such as antibody-antigen binding.
