Density dependence

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003001

A regulatory mechanism in population ecology where the rate of population growth or decline is influenced by the population's density. As population density increases, factors such as competition for resources, predation, and disease become more intense, leading to a decrease in birth rates or an increase in death rates. This mechanism often leads to logistic growth patterns in populations.
