Epitope retrieval

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004044

A laboratory procedure employed to unmask or expose antigenic sites in tissue sections, particularly after fixation with agents like formalin. This treatment reverses the cross-linking and conformational changes induced by fixatives, allowing antibodies to bind to their target epitopes. Heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) and enzyme-induced epitope retrieval (EIER) are two common approaches.
