Extrapyramidal movement disorders

A group of neurological conditions characterized by involuntary movements or impaired voluntary movements, arising from dysfunction in the basal ganglia and related brain structures. These disorders are not caused by damage to the pyramidal tracts. Examples include dystonia, akathisia, and tardive dyskinesia, which can be induced by certain neuroleptic medications.
