Habituation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005067
A behavioral change in which an organism's response to a repeated, non-threatening stimulus diminishes over time. This form of non-associative learning allows an animal to ignore irrelevant sensory information and focus on new or more meaningful signals. Unlike sensory adaptation, which involves a change in the sensory receptors themselves, habituation is a change in the central nervous system's processing of the stimulus.
