Intended crossing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005920

A point on a potential energy surface where two electronic states would intersect if their interaction were neglected. This concept is relevant in understanding non-adiabatic processes where the Born-Oppenheimer approximation breaks down. In reality, such crossings are often avoided due to coupling between the electronic states.
