Palaeontology

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008424

The scientific study of life from past geological ages, based on the analysis of fossils of plants, animals, and other organisms. It investigates their evolution, morphology, and interactions with ancient environments. In ecotoxicology, palaeontological data from sediment cores, such as fossilized diatoms or pollen, are used to reconstruct historical environmental conditions and establish baselines for assessing the impact of modern contaminants.
