Prepubescence

The period of late childhood just before puberty, when the gonads are still largely inactive and secondary sexual characteristics have not appeared. Growth continues at a slow, steady rate of roughly 5 to 6 cm a year, and the adolescent growth spurt has not yet begun. Its end is marked by breast budding in girls or testicular enlargement in boys.
