Reference individual

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010066

A person chosen by defined criteria, such as health status, age, sex and absence of medication, to serve as a comparison subject in a clinical study. Measurements from a group of reference individuals form the reference sample group, which is then used to calculate reference intervals for laboratory tests. Such a person is a real participant, in contrast to the hypothetical reference man used in radiation dosimetry.
