Reference ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010068
An ion of known mass-to-charge ratio that is introduced into a mass spectrometer to calibrate the mass scale. These ions provide distinct, well-defined peaks in the mass spectrum, allowing for accurate assignment of m/z values to unknown analytes. Common reference ions are often derived from perfluorinated compounds due to their characteristic fragmentation patterns.
