Lock mass

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006744

A precisely known mass-to-charge ratio of a reference compound introduced into a mass spectrometer to provide continuous internal calibration during an analysis. This reference signal allows for real-time correction of mass drift, improving the accuracy and precision of mass measurements. Perfluorotributylamine (PFTBA) is a common lock mass standard.
