Residual risk

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010226

The risk that remains after all risk management and mitigation measures have been implemented to reduce an initial, or inherent, risk. It represents the level of risk that is accepted or tolerated because further reduction is deemed impractical, not technically feasible, or not cost-effective. The magnitude of residual risk is a key consideration in determining whether a chemical, process, or site is acceptably safe for its intended use or for public exposure.
