Slater determinant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010933
A mathematical expression used in quantum mechanics to describe the wave function of a multi-electron system. It is constructed from a product of one-electron spin orbitals and satisfies the Pauli exclusion principle by being antisymmetric with respect to the exchange of any two electrons. This determinant forms the basis for many ab initio quantum chemical calculations.
