Gaussian orbital

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004784

A mathematical function used as a basis function in computational chemistry to approximate atomic orbitals. These functions have the form of a Gaussian curve, e^(-ar^2), which simplifies the calculation of molecular integrals compared to Slater-type orbitals. They are widely employed in ab initio quantum chemistry calculations.
