Symmetric top
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011724
A type of rigid rotor molecule in which two of the three principal moments of inertia are equal, while the third is different. This molecular geometry results in specific patterns in rotational spectra. Examples include ammonia (NH3) and methyl chloride (CH3Cl), which have a C3 axis of symmetry.
