Time-temperature superposition principle

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012074

A principle stating that for certain viscoelastic polymers, the effect of changing the temperature is equivalent to the effect of scaling the timescale. This allows viscoelastic property data measured over a limited frequency or time range at several temperatures to be combined into a single master curve covering a much broader range. The amount of horizontal shifting required to align the data is described by a shift factor, which is often modeled by the Williams-Landel-Ferry equation.
