Toxic dose

The quantity of a substance that, when introduced into the body, produces a harmful effect other than a lethal one. This dose is specific to the substance, route of administration, and species being tested, and it causes adverse health outcomes that are not immediately fatal. Toxic dose is often expressed as TD50, the dose that causes a toxic response in 50 percent of a test population.
