Therapeutic index
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011927
A quantitative measure that compares the dose of a drug that causes a therapeutic effect to the dose that causes toxicity. It is typically expressed as the ratio of the toxic dose (TD50) to the effective dose (ED50), or the lethal dose (LD50) to the effective dose (ED50). A higher therapeutic index indicates a wider margin of safety for the drug.
