Margin of exposure

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006958

A ratio used in toxicology to compare the dose at which a toxic effect is observed in animal studies to the estimated human exposure dose. It is calculated by dividing the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) or benchmark dose (BMD) from animal data by the estimated human intake. A higher margin of exposure generally indicates a lower risk to human health.
