Teratogenic index
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011870
A quantitative measure used to assess the relative teratogenic potential of a substance. It is calculated as the ratio of the dose that causes maternal toxicity to the dose that causes developmental toxicity in the offspring. A higher index suggests a greater margin between the dose causing harm to the mother and the dose causing harm to the fetus.
