Teratogenicity

The inherent ability of a chemical, physical agent, or biological factor to cause developmental abnormalities in an embryo or fetus. This property is evaluated by observing the incidence and severity of birth defects in offspring after maternal exposure. It is a key consideration in toxicology and risk assessment for substances to which pregnant individuals might be exposed.
