Teratogenic

Describing a substance or agent that has the capacity to induce malformations or developmental abnormalities in an embryo or fetus. This property is assessed through studies that expose pregnant organisms to the agent and observe the offspring for birth defects. The degree of teratogenicity can vary depending on the dose and timing of exposure.
