Underdetermined system

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012422

A system of equations or a model where the number of unknown variables exceeds the number of independent equations or observations. In computational drug design, this can occur when trying to determine molecular properties from limited experimental data. Such systems typically have an infinite number of solutions, requiring additional constraints or assumptions to find a unique or most probable solution.
