Uncus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012421
A hook-shaped anterior extremity of the parahippocampal gyrus in the temporal lobe of the brain. This region is part of the limbic system and is involved in olfaction, memory, and emotion. Compression of the uncus, often due to increased intracranial pressure, can lead to uncal herniation, affecting cranial nerves and consciousness.
