Gibbs-Konovalov equations

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004883

A pair of equations for a binary mixture that relate changes in temperature, pressure and composition in one phase to those in a coexisting equilibrium phase of different composition, such as a vapour in equilibrium with a liquid. They show that the temperature-composition or pressure-composition curve has an extremum, with zero slope, where the two phases have equal compositions, as at an azeotrope. The relations follow from the Gibbs-Duhem equation applied to each phase.
