Unimolecular
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012434
Describing a reaction or process involving a single molecule as the reactant in the rate-determining step. The rate of a unimolecular reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of that single reactant. An example is the unimolecular decomposition of dinitrogen pentoxide, where N2O5 breaks down into NO2 and NO3.
