Floating point
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000447
A method of representing real numbers in computing, allowing for a trade-off between range and precision. It uses a fixed number of digits for the significant figures (mantissa) and scales this number by an exponent. The IEEE 754 standard defines common formats for single-precision (32-bit) and double-precision (64-bit) floating-point numbers.
