Epoch time

A system for representing a point in time as the number of seconds that have elapsed since a specific starting point, known as the epoch. For Unix and POSIX-compliant systems, the epoch is 00:00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on 1 January 1970. This value is stored as a signed 32-bit or 64-bit integer, making it independent of time zones and suitable for file timestamps and network protocols.
