An abbreviation for End Of Line, a special character or sequence of characters marking the termination of a line of text in a computer file. Different operating systems use different EOL conventions, which can cause compatibility issues when transferring text files between them. For example, Windows uses a carriage return followed by a line feed (CRLF), while Unix-like systems use only a line feed (LF).
