Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000478
A unit of digital information storage equal to one billion (10^9) bytes. The gigabyte (GB) is a standard measure for the capacity of data storage devices like hard disk drives, solid-state drives, and USB flash drives, as well as for computer memory (RAM). In the context of storage media, a gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes, whereas in some operating system contexts it has represented 1,073,741,824 (2^30) bytes, a value now formally defined as a gibibyte (GiB).
