Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000730
A unit of digital information storage equal to one million (10^6) bytes. The megabyte, abbreviated MB, is frequently used to measure the size of files and the capacity of storage devices. While storage manufacturers define a megabyte using the decimal prefix of 1,000,000 bytes, operating systems and memory specifications have historically used the binary definition of 1,048,576 bytes (2^20 bytes), a quantity now formally known as a mebibyte (MiB).
