Sandboxing

The practice of isolating a program or process within a restricted environment to prevent it from interacting with the host system or other applications. This containment mechanism limits the resources and permissions available to the sandboxed entity, mitigating potential security risks from untrusted code. A sandbox typically employs virtual machines, containers, or chroot jails to enforce these boundaries.
