Wardriving

The practice of discovering Wi-Fi networks from a moving vehicle by using a computer or smartphone. A device running specialized software passively scans for wireless access points, recording their characteristics and locations. The collected information, such as network names (SSIDs), encryption types, and GPS coordinates, is then used to build a map of wireless infrastructure in an area.
