"definition": "Filters in American FactFinder are the predefined subjects or categories used to organize Census data. Filters are also used to organize the selections found on the Geography, Population Group, and Industry Code overlays.\n\nWhen you select a filter (e.g., \"Language spoken at home\", \"Educational attainment\") from the topic list on the search page, the selected filter is added to \"Your Selections\", and the search results update to display only those products associated with the filters contained in \"Your Selections\".\n\nWhen you select a filter from the \"Geography Filter Options\" on the Geography overlay (e.g., \"Geography Type: State\", \"Within State: Alabama\"), the selected geography filter is added to \"Your Geography Filters\", and the geography search results update to display only those geographies associated with the filters contained in \"Your Geography Filters\". The Population Groups and Industry Codes overlays work the same way.",
