Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000067
A telephony system that manages and routes a large volume of incoming calls to a group of agents or extensions based on predefined rules. An Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) places callers in a queue, plays recorded messages, and directs calls to the next available agent or the one with a specific skill set. ACD systems are foundational to call centers and are often integrated with interactive voice response (IVR) units to further automate call handling.
